Woo!

2 words: FUCK and YEAH!

Exams are over! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Now it’s just 3 weeks until it all starts again! Wheeeeeeeeee!

Well, I think it’s 3. Whatever.

One weekend until the Hunter Valley trip with Winesoc. Wooooooo.

Yes, I know my jubilation clearly extends across the Internet. Please join me in this time of rejoicing.

Slogans.

This should change on every reload.

hehe. The simple things.

Well, exams soon. Next week in fact. Only databases in week 1 of exams, then e-business and project management in the second week. I have a 2 hour exam review session to be at in an hour and it looks like I wont be showering if I expect to make it there on time (and have some toast).

That’ll be the kick-start to my study, actually. I haven’t looked at anything yet. Strangely enough, I’ve been to all of my lectures (well, the ones that the lecturer presented) for databases and project management, so I feel somewhat confident about them. E-business is a different story: I’ve skipped about 8 or 9 of those. Oh well. I get the impression most of the course is similar to things I’ve already studied. I hope so, at least.

It’s been just over 5 weeks since left for her trip. Only 14 weeks to go! Whackadoo. It’s gone pretty fast, admittedly. I still have to reply to her email. I mark them as “personal” in Thunderbird, just so I can pretend I’m important and need to label my mail in case it was audited, or something.

I bought a new video card! Well, a second hand one that hasn’t been used. Yes, I got an nVidia 6800GT. It’s pretty funky (no purple bars of doom like my old busted card), but it seems to heat up when I have all the details running on full at 1280×1024 in the Battlefield 2 demo. It starts getting artifacts and the textures fuck up after a little while, when the card heats up to about 90°. :O I think I may have to plug my case fan back in to try and keep it cool. If only this place wasn’t so fucking dusty, I wouldn’t mind. If I use the fan, all the dust layers around the grill on the front of my case in a nice, thick clump. The grill stops most of it, but fine dust still gets through into the machine and so over time it becomes like an abandoned library inside the case. I must admit it’s kind of fun cleaning it out. There’s something satisfying about dusting with a paintbrush and seeing all the metal become shiny and new again.

Nokia.

Got a call from my mobile phone provider today. They’re changing my plan since I don’t make many phone calls. $59 cap instead of $75, with $200 worth of everything except international calls (and maybe wireless stuff?) included… Or something. Whatever.

Anyway, they’re also giving me a new phone! That means I’m on another 2 year contract, but who cares?

Currently, I have a Nokia 3530, which is rather ugly and a little clunky. It also fails to have much memory on it or any particularly useful features. The new one is the Nokia 5140, for the “outdoorsiness” in me. It has a compass! That’s cool enough for me. I think Frank has that phone, actually. It’s about a year or so old… Maybe more. Meh. I don’t care.

Hmm. It seems to have a radio (!!!! thank christ), torch and thermometer, too. This is like the extension to my long-gone school blazer “survival kit” that I’ve been wanting. Ha! Finally it pays to have answered the phone for once.

Pop.

Lara Croft goes bust

In an attempt to appeal to more female players the creators of computer game icon Lara Croft have re-vamped her image to remove one of her most prominent and remarked- upon features – her generous bust.

In the soon-to-be-released “Tomb Raider: Legend”, the eighth title to feature Croft, her DD-size bust has been reduced to a more modest C-cup and some of her more revealing outfits have been ditched, the report said.

Bad luck for all those low-polygon porn freaks out there.

In other news: I had a pie from Shakespeare’s Jesters (note the distinct lack of an apostrophe). Vegetarian curry with a side of their magnificent chips. I’m very disturbed at their lack of an apostrophe in their name. Fuckers. At least the food is still good.

Uni work is in the second wave of “must complete ASAP” for the semester. That’s the good wave because it means exams are coming soon and that means holidays. Huzzah. Cramming time is yet to be scheduled.

Speaking of schedules, I have to get out of work on the 10th of June for Mary’s Katie’s party. Yes, she changed her name last year. I still prefer Mary. Hmm.

Our “temporary flatmate”, Nick, (or G_o_L_i_A_t_H as he prefers to be called) is yet to arrive back from his weekend up in Newcastle rooting his girlfriend. We haven’t heard anything from him and all his stuff is still on the floor near the kitchen, along with his computer. I hope he’s alright. He hasn’t been answering his phone. His mum hasn’t rung us, either. She knows our phone number so I’d assume if she knew something had happened we’d have been called by her at least. Then again if something’s happened on the way home on Sunday night, maybe no one knows about it. I’m avoiding thinking about the possibilities until I hear more. He wasn’t at work today, too.

Boom.

I think the Thai restaurant below our units blew up, or something. There’s people from both the police and fire departments wandering around out the front, and our side of King street down from Enmore road has been blocked off. The power only just came back on a few minutes ago. Funky. It smells like smoke or something out the front of the place, too. One of the doors has broken glass as well. I wonder if something actually exploded. Hmm.

Since the power’s come back on, the security gate phone/intercom thing has been constantly ringing. It’s become white noise to me, though. Almost.

To top it off, tofu’s car alarm remote has run out of battery power so he can’t get in his car. He’s coming back to get the spare then wants me to drive him to Circular Quay to his car. I might make him get the train back since it’s like 10 mins away. What kind of noob drives to circular quay when it’s on the other side of the city instead of taking 5 train stops? Honestly.

He’s back now. I haven’t broken the bad news to him yet. He’s hyped up because he’s about to have some cornflakes that he got on special at IGA. I don’t want to ruin the moment.

I got two bags of 500g Allen’s Party Mix lollies for half price at IGA, myself. I’m also excited and sugary.

On Saturday I went to a fund-raising trivia night at St Pius X college. I think that was the school. Anyway, I went with some mates from the Winesoc exec. Chris is a trivia king, it’s true. I was impressed. Good fun.

Alright, time to take Scott to his little black car. I was too weak to say no. I’ve got nothing better to do, either.

Sniff.

Well, Lou left with Kirsty today. Yesterday, technically. I almost slept through it. I think I must have picked up my mobile (I use it for an alarm) and turned it off at 5am and then started hugging it all while I was asleep.

I woke up at 5:55, jumped up, brushed my teeth and ran off to my car to get to the airport by 6:30am. I made it right on time, even though I got a bit lost trying to work out where the car park was for the international terminal.

Inside, I spent about 2 hours with Lou and Kirsty and their parents as we wandered around the terminal. I even scored a free breakfast of cinnamon raisin toast. It wasn’t bad, to be honest. Lou bravely managed to hold back the tears when she had to leave us with Kirsty and go through customs, although I think the floodgates burst when she began to walk off. Poor bebe. :(

It should be all good, though. They’re spending a night in Japan after their ?9 hour flight. I’d be annoyed at only having half a night and a few hours in the morning in an (what I would think to be) interesting place like Japan. Still, they’re off to merry England for the first official stop, so that should be cool.

It still hasn’t sunk in that I probably wont be seeing her for about 4 and a half months. I’m sure it will soon enough. Hopefully I’ll keep myself distracted some other way on weekends. It’ll be a change after all these years. ;)

For this week, I’m going to a trivia night with Ali and Chris from Winesoc. It sounds like fun. Fucked if I know where it is, but it’s close to the North Shore so I should be able to find it easily enough.

Somehow I picked up a cold. I think I got it from Lou. Quite a few people seem to have caught something, so whoever the culprit was it probably doesn’t matter as I’d have caught it anyway. My immune system is probably just hanging on at the best of times due to the lack of sleep I tend to get. A bad diet like mine probably doesn’t help, either. I did eat two mandarins and an apple for dinner tonight, though, to con my body in to thinking it was eating well. I backed it up with a muffin and some chocolate. Nothing like headfucking your own digestive system.

Touchy.

I owned a guy at the 3H’s hotel last night.

I gently bumped in to some late 30s guy’s shoulder with the back of my leg when I slid between two chairs in the outdoor dining area.

He turned around and said in a surly tone, “you right, mate?”

I was a bit put off, since it was just one of those general brushes that no one really pays any attention to. I inquired, “sorry?”

“You hit me with your arse,” he responded, trying to sound tough in front of his girlfriend/wife, his mate and his mate’s girlfriend/wife.

Now, I was already put off by his tone, given the circumstance. Usually I’d get even more put off if someone started being a little menacing like this guy was. Somehow, though, I reflexively retorted by looking him in the eye and asking, “did you like it?”

The man’s face blushed nearly instantly until it was purple as he jerked his head back around to face his table. Mid-swing he only managed to blurt out an awkward “…NO!”

He didn’t trouble me for the rest of the night.

It still feels good.

Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It’s the chipset fan, I discovered. I didn’t even know I had one. What a great IT student I am!

I took my PC apart and decided to give it a dust. I almost died from lack of oxygen. Christ. I’m glad I took it outside before I took a paintbrush to it.

So, once I found out it was a dodgy fan I spent a while trying to work out what my mobo model was since I’d already put everything back together and couldn’t be fucked taking it apart again… I had to anyway in the end.

Armed with a model number, I researched different chipset heatsinks and fans, only to find that practically none of them support the metal spring clips that my board uses. Good times. I can’t really be fucked buying a heatsink and glue then sticking them on either, since it’ll cost about $60 or more, probably.

Then, I found out that apparently it doesn’t really need a fan anyway. That’s from random Internet quotes and discussions at least. The fans they use on ABIT boards are meant to be quite dodgy and unless you’re overclocking it probably wont overheat. I’ll check the temperature though when I gather up the energy to take the fan off.

I’d really love a CRT for this PC, just because the fucking LCD monitor doesn’t display DOS at all. I have a black screen regardless of the state of my PC until Windows loads up. >_<

Meanwhile: I’m getting Naruto episodes 127 & 128 combined at 126kb/s. :D

Dattebayo!

*Edit*

omg! Some prick has dubbed BOTH episodes as some bad pre-April Fools joke. It sounds pretty funny, and it’s a lot of work, but man… All that excitement! Ah well, guess the joke worked. Hope the real one comes out tomorrow. >_<
