Merge.

Well, I’ve decided to manually (for lack of a better/any other option) copy all my LiveJournal posts over to blogspot.

I’ll do a few months at a time. It’s not too painful, I suppose. It’s a bit annoying adjusting all the dates/times for each entry, but oh well.

P.S. Naruto rocks and it’s hard to find Smallville, now.

Thank you feeding technology.

Another headline:

Biases revealed in US House of Representatives.

A mathematical study of the US House of Representatives reveals clear partisanship – including stacked committees – within the House.

While this may not surprise political analysts, the objective analysis contradicts the US Code, which outlines US laws and suggests a just system in which all legislation receives a fair hearing from politicians who put the country’s interests ahead of their political party’s. The words “non-partisan” and “unbiased” appear frequently in the code.

That ought to give you all something to whinge about for approximately one or two paragraphs.

Something more light-hearted:

Eggheads Invent Tele-Petting.

You walk into your office, where a hollow, chicken-shaped doll sits on a mechanical positioning table close to your computer.

The doll whirs to life as soon as you switch on the system, duplicating the motion of a real chicken in the backyard whose movements are being captured by a webcam.

The technology’s real potential is ushering in a tele-haptic future where human-to-human interaction is vastly enhanced.

Sit the fuck down, Mary.

After decades of bickering, an international ecumenical body devoted to bridging the gulf between the Anglican and Catholic churches has reached a historic agreement about the role of Mary, Mother of Jesus: she is the Lord’s handmaiden and sinless, but not the source of eternal salvation.

Copyright an aberration with a limited future.

Copyright laws operate against the interests of consumers and most artists. They mostly benefit the middlemen in the music, film and publishing industries. It is these people who are directly responsible for the predominance of junk served up on the screen and over the airwaves. They seek to extend their temporary control of content and how it is distributed for as long as they can.

Gotta go to my crappy EBUS lab this morning. It’s raining pretty hard, though. Not sure if I’ll make the effort. That means I’ll have to SMS Dave and let him know and check the schedule for this lab, just in case. Fucking shit subject. Bah.

Blogspot.

http://redknob.blogspot.com

That’s my new Blogger blog. I don’t know if I’ll use it. I kind of like having all my post history in here and without my own proper server it’s a bitch to export and replace my 2 year LJ post history. Not that it’s worth backing up any of it, but I’m sure one day some very bored person (probably not me) will end up reading what I had to say in February 2004.

There doesn’t seem to be any standalone client to post to that journal, unlike the reasonable selection LiveJournal has. Still, the site looks cool enough for a default template. Maybe I could flog the layout. Maybe not. I think I’d have to pay for this one. Whatever.

I signed up for Google AdSense on a whim for it. Just in case it earns me $0.20 some day. Something to do, I guess. It’s not like I don’t already have my name and address logged in about 500 databases by now, anyway.

P.S. my previous post I had to manually copy and paste from my blogspot.

I wish there was a nice way to merge them, or syndicate them whilst recording the posts. Buggers.

I’m hooked, I guess. Like it or not.

Another great reason to buy in to MMORPGs:

Online gamer charged with killing competitor

Qiu Chengwei, 41, went on trial on Tuesday in a Shanghai court on charges that he stabbed to death Zhu Caoyuan, a fellow player of a popular game called Legend of Mir III, the China Daily newspaper said.

Qiu confronted Zhu after learning that he sold the virtual weapon lent to him by Qiu to another player, the newspaper said. It said Qiu reported the loss of the “Dragon Saber” to police but they said it wasn’t real property protected by the law.

And if that wasn’t enough:

Exabyte, the new megabyte

Here’s a scary thought: at the moment, most of the world’s telephone calls are ephemeral – as soon as the words are spoken, they are lost. But storage capacity is now so great, and cost so low, that it is becoming feasible to store all telephone conversations on computer disk.

With the increased requirements for audit trails for compliance, the real and artificial imperatives of the war on terrorism, and the increased sophistication of data mining software that can analyse digitised voice patterns, can this be far away?

And since when did have 41 friends? Man, none of mine even post in their journals so there’s only about 2-3 things to read on the friends page every now and then.

Perhaps I should get more e-social.

Perhaps.

Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It’s the chipset fan, I discovered. I didn’t even know I had one. What a great IT student I am!

I took my PC apart and decided to give it a dust. I almost died from lack of oxygen. Christ. I’m glad I took it outside before I took a paintbrush to it.

So, once I found out it was a dodgy fan I spent a while trying to work out what my mobo model was since I’d already put everything back together and couldn’t be fucked taking it apart again… I had to anyway in the end.

Armed with a model number, I researched different chipset heatsinks and fans, only to find that practically none of them support the metal spring clips that my board uses. Good times. I can’t really be fucked buying a heatsink and glue then sticking them on either, since it’ll cost about $60 or more, probably.

Then, I found out that apparently it doesn’t really need a fan anyway. That’s from random Internet quotes and discussions at least. The fans they use on ABIT boards are meant to be quite dodgy and unless you’re overclocking it probably wont overheat. I’ll check the temperature though when I gather up the energy to take the fan off.

I’d really love a CRT for this PC, just because the fucking LCD monitor doesn’t display DOS at all. I have a black screen regardless of the state of my PC until Windows loads up. >_<

Meanwhile: I’m getting Naruto episodes 127 & 128 combined at 126kb/s. :D

Dattebayo!

*Edit*

omg! Some prick has dubbed BOTH episodes as some bad pre-April Fools joke. It sounds pretty funny, and it’s a lot of work, but man… All that excitement! Ah well, guess the joke worked. Hope the real one comes out tomorrow. >_<

Whirr.

I think the fan in my PC has crapped itself for the time being. It’s fucking noisy.

At the moment, I’m typing this with a toothbrush in my mouth and Colgate seeping out its corners. I’m about to go to work but I decided to procrastinate. That mentality is basically where I got the idea for the journal title. Then again, who bothers looking at other people’s journals from their actual page? Not I.

KOTOR2 has an unsolvable scripting error that ruins the game, requiring the player to restart if they hope to get past it. After 30+ hours play time I can’t see that happening.

I’ve been playing a bit of the latest Hoyle’s Casino, brushing up on my gambling skills. Maybe when I’ve got some actual money I can pretend I’m a high roller for about 5 blackjack hands, then stumble out in tears.

This toothpaste is fresh. Mmm.

I bought some Mamee noodles today from the supermarket. Exciting times. I haven’t really had them since I ate about 40 of them in one day about 10 years ago. That was at Vinny’s house, with Gary, raging up on NBA Live 95 on his SNES.

Speaking of Vinny, he told me Harris got engaged the other day. I’ll catch up with them some time soon, I said.

P.S. Hi Lloyd and Erica if you both read this. Stalkers.

Pics.

Finally pulled all the pics off my shitty old camera’s memory card. See the cut. There’s an awesome one of my cat, if that helps you decide to bother looking.

Just changed my shifts around at work, so that I get the penalty rates counting over my whole shift. 17% pay increase baby. \o/

Well, that’s how it’s meant to work.

Tried out iTunes because I was prepared to pay to download Gary Numan’s Pleasure Principle album. Turns out that’s practically the only Gary Numan album that they don’t have. Soulseek is way too slow unless you want mainstream popular shit, so it looks like I’m up shit/Amazon/record store creek.

Some of those other legal MP3 download sites are dodgy. I especially love the ones that request your email first, then on the next page after you’ve submitted it your credit card number, etc. Gotta love having Hotmail for trying shit like that out. At least until the second step.

Still, they offered ~ US$0.25/song as opposed to iTunes’ US$0.99/song. Bigger library too. Meh.
Here’s my favourite:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

That’s from home though, when I lived there. I miss him. :'(

Scott’s been asleep all night, until I did this:

He’s gonna get me back for that, I can feel it. Actually he looks a bit like Chris Taylor from The Chaser and triple j in that one.

Don’t you think?

Especially this one:

Here’s another unflattering one of me I think, with young Tomy. Hope his mum doesn’t see this or we’ll never be allowed to kidnap him again for an afternoon. Man my arms look like noodles now. :O I should start trying to pretend I do weights somewhat regularly again. Or something.

hehe.

Retro.

Just watched the Breakfast Club with Lou. She hadn’t seen it before and I haven’t watched it in years. It’s so good. :) I was born about 18 years too late, I missed my cultural prime. :(

What else should I mention? Hmm. Looks like Dubya got re-elected. I was expecting it anyway, so I guess I was braced for a bit of disappointment. I hear that Hillary (?Hilary) Clinton is keen on running as the Democrats leader for the new election… Can’t wait to watch that!

Gotta lend one of my textbooks to a guy from uni tomorrow. He wants to photocopy it all so he doesn’t have to buy the book. Hope he gets it back to me swiftly! Otherwise I wont have to feel bad about not studying until the day before the exam. Wee-hoo.

Yesterday I went out to some furniture park near dad’s work in the western suburbs with my parents. Bought some new furniture (el-cheapo to moderately priced) for the flat. Only a few weeks until the big move! :o It should be fun. Hope everything we bought fits in the place and also suits the place. I’m having a minor dilemma in that I can’t find a decent red or maroon-y bedspread anywhere. :(

Mum and dad also said we should be able to pick up a second remote for the garage, so I can more easily attempt to ninja a spot in there (we have a feeling a lot of the spots aren’t being used at all). By the way, tofu/’s the one moving in with me. What an unveiling! He’s getting our assigned car park as he’s most likely to have a new(ish) car by the time we move in.

I worked out I only need to slightly extend my hours at work each week in order to relatively comfortably provide for myself during semester. That means I can probably chuck an extra few shifts in just for “fun” over the holidays and save up a bit more anyway. I’ll see how I go.

My video card is still playing up. Little shit. Purple bars and all. says it’s probably the on-card memory. I don’t know shit about PC hardware in the greater scheme of things so I’ll take his word for it. Tried to talk dad in to getting the guys at PlusCorp to swap it for me… Hopefully he will.

The end.

*thwip*

Bought the most bonar Spidey t-shirt today. It’s white with red collars and lining on the sleeves. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Also negotiating with a dude for a mod-chipped X-Box with a 120 gig hard drive in it, amongst other shit. Yay for spending!

Lloyd is a noob btw.

So yeah, went in to town with Lou today and bought my shirt in Utopia. Saw The Girl Next Door. It was ok, for a dumb movie. I was somewhat surprised there weren’t any porn star cameos (that I noticed, at least)… But anyway.

Rounding off day 3 of my latest kick-start diet. Banana smoothies tomorrow! Wooooohoooo!

Played my first game of RtCW in about a year last night. Was mad fun, even though we lost 3-1. Damn skitzy and his bs haxing. :O! Ah well.

It’s cold. Brr.

*Update*
What an arsehole. The guy I was emailing about the X-Box decided (within an hour of me saying the price he wanted sounded fair) that he didn’t want to sell it any more and would keep it. Fucker.

Now I’ll have to win another auction and maybe score some mod chips as well. Not to mention buying a hard drive eventually. Oh well.
