Newsflash.

Hudson recruiting says redknob doesn’t cut it.

Oh well. I wonder what they were looking for in the other applications that got accepted? Never mind. As much as I wanted the job because it looked easy and paid well, I was a little upset that it’d fuck up my plans to travel mid next year. Now I’m back to square one and don’t seem to mind at all. Woot.

Resume.

Well, I finally wrote one. I think it looks pretty. Like a fairy.

So I applied for some job that someone found for me. It certainly sounds sexy. Who would have though that there’s a grad job going out there for $50k/year? Hopefully no one except me. It certainly sucks having to write a cover letter.

Oh yeah. I finished uni. Hurrah. Shame all I did afterwards was sit around playing WoW and feeling lonely. The baked beans I had for dinner didn’t really provide a whole lot of comfort, either.

Now that I don’t have any academic responsibilities I suppose I’m meant to feel like a free man. Yeah, whatever.

I think it’s time I got a haircut. I should visit that odd little man up the road and have him make me look stylish for only $12. Maybe later.

Fuck, I really don’t want to go to work tonight.

:O

Well, I just woke up.

I haven’t slept in this late for a long time. I woke up at 3pm and that’s the time I’m meant to leave for work. Whoops.

I think I’ll be a little late in today.

The report for the project has been done and should have been submitted today. We had our client demonstration yesterday as well and it seemed to go smoothly. They’re very keen on us doing well and seem to genuinely want what we’re building. It’s a little creepy but it’s still encouraging. It’s fabuluous that now I don’t really have to care all that much about the rest of the course for the semester. Of course, I’ll have to know my stuff for the oral exam but that won’t be too challenging. The same goes for our final presentation. I just want to finish it. Whee.

Last night was the Winesoc Red & White Ball/Formal/Dinner. I got to don my new tux. I think I looked somewhat dapper in the good old traditional black tie style. I have some shitty photos that I took with my shitty camera in to a shitty mirror after I got dressed so I’ll upload them later. That is, as long as I don’t look shitty.

Yes, the dinner last night was great. We’d booked out a Greek restaurant so there was the odd bit of plate smashing alongside a tonne of food and wine. I managed to convince Benecke and Byrne (who needs first names when you could have surnames like that?) to come along with me. I think they had a good time even though they disappeared without saying goodbye (which they did according to Byrne). I even saw JJ, Bal and Chunky there. Guess the nicknames out of that lot.

So we danced and drank and ate and mostly didn’t have to feign merriment until we got kicked out. I wasn’t particularly drunk at the end of the event as I’d spent quite some time standing around outside talking to people and looking after sad drunks so that by the time I returned indoors the bar had been closed. Disappointing. I still managed to score some baklava for the trouble, so it was worth it.

Afterwards a few of us ended up wandering down towards Oxford street. I think we went to The Columbian until they kicked us out and then those of us who were left were unable to get in to some other predominantly queer club because the girls were wearing “open toed shoes”. That’s a new one. It was probably for the best as it meant we could sit in some other pub and get cheaper drinks and all be accosted at once by a rather repulsive drunk lesbian/bisexual who asked us all if we were “going to drink or just sit there looking pretty all night”.

To cap off the night, I scored a cold falafel and managed to share a taxi back to Newtown. I think my clothes survived any real damage, too.

All in all a good night.

Vino.

We won the rugby. Yay.

Let’s see, what’s happening…

I dropped in to a new friend’s party on Friday night after work: one of the girls I met on the Hunter trip the other day. It was pretty groovy even though I was all on my lonesome and barely knew anyone. There were enough drunken people stumbling around to keep me entertained. I suppose that’s good enough.

This week I’m going to be pretty bored. I should probably do some more shifts at work, but I can’t be fucked. I’ve sorted out my tax return. Hopefully I’ll get about $500 or so back, woot! I also got about $250 cash on Saturday night from all the guys after I bought their rugby tickets for them weeks ago. My wallet is about to burst. It’s a comforting feeling. Unfortunately it also means my pants keep falling down with all the shrapnel stuck in the back pocket of my jeans. At least I’ll be loaded and naked. Another comforting feeling.

In other (old) news, Jennifer Agutter was hot. I knew this the first time I saw Logan’s Run years ago, I just don’t believe I ever recorded the fact anywhere. Even the guys from Coupling say so, so I must be right.

Bang.

Seems both Reuters’ and CNN’s networks have collapsed after the London bombings. Nothing like a surge to really fuck up a network admin’s day.

I suppose now that this has happened it’s a little irrelevant to talk up my trip to the Hunter with Winesoc. Since the dust hasn’t quite settled yet, I’ll at least mention it.

I bought 3 bottles of wine and had a good time. Met lots of new people and maybe even a new friend or two, but we’ll see. On the second night I wore a netball costume that I bought that night from the Cessnock Lowes store. My legs are still hot.

Only one person spewed the whole trip, which is a new record as far as I know.

Apparently on the second night I must have looked like the walking dead. I felt really tired and completely pissed, but I didn’t pass out or do anything embarrassing (except for eating a carrot carved in to the shape of a penis). Everyone was asking me how I was doing the next day, so I must have looked much worse than I felt.

I had to go to work as soon as I got off the bus yesterday afternoon. :( I need the money, though, and I survived. That must mean it wasn’t so bad.

It’s very tempting to crack open the bottle of dessert wine I bought. I haven’t had any dessert, but so what, right?

DNS.

I’ve been researching virtual private servers for hosting the team.dot website. Some of the deals out there look pretty sweet. Unfortunately, CoreVPS doesn’t allow IRC services. The bastards. PowerVPS might, but I’m going to have to email them and see.

Anyway, on a whim I decided to fork out AUS$57.07 to own the domain “redknob.net” for the next 5 years. I was tempted to go for 10 but I didn’t want to blow all that money on something that I wouldn’t have any real use for yet. Namecheap are just that, if anyone is interested. Some stupid farm has registered redknob.com. What an embarrassment. Maybe I can get the domain in 2007. I’ll have to keep checking.

Ohh, I’m the hypertext guru tonight!

Shame I still need to do more study tomorrow. Brett was pissed when I said I wouldn’t be coming in to work tonight. Oh well.

Shipwrecked.

Lokitorrent got owned the other day. :(

Tried to post this yesterday morning, but LJ was fucked, too. Nice one.

Fortunately I still have my other premium torrent sites to entertain me! Just hope they don’t get raided and have to give up their member details. :O Possibly the worst thing about all the new sites: user databases.

So, my late wrap-up of recent games:

COPS 2170: The Power of Law – (…) good idea, decent graphics, bad implementation. Kind of like Jagged Alliance meets Syndicate Wars. I really like most of this game, but it’s just not balanced correctly so it can be incredibly hard even on the easiest setting. Not to mention it has a reallllllllllly lame name.

The Punisher – Cool. True to the spirit of the comics. Very brutal and ruthless, but with flair. Nice to see a few Marvel cameos as well. Think Manhunt meets Max Payne, but take out all the stupid annoying shit from Manhunt.

Fallout Tactics – not too bad either. A beefed up version of the Fallout games, with nicer graphics and higher resolution. This one is a bit old now and I’ve been after it for a while, just haven’t been able to get my hands on it properly. It’s a tactical combat style game basically, again similar to Jagged Alliance or X-COM. It has 3 different settings though, from real-time (Warcraft 3 style) to squad turn-based (X-COM style) to attack precedence I guess you’d call it (Fallout 1 & 2 style). Anyway, I got a bit of the way through it then started pining for some old Fallout 1 and 2, but my copy of Fallout 2 doesn’t work so I may just order it from a games website if I feel like spending the $15.

I could get Fallout 2 for US$2.50 and another US$2.50 for shipping I think if Amazon’s marketplace let people ship video games internationally. Fuckers. :<

I don’t suppose anyone really cares about any of the stuff I just wrote. I just thought I needed to make it look like I’ve got something to say for once. Hmm.

I’ve got a feeling I probably wont get the tutoring position at uni that I applied for. I’m kind of happy about it now though, turns out the course I applied for isn’t set out the way I thought it would be, so I’m not really keen on teaching it anyway. I don’t know if I could be fucked with doing the programming courses as well. Might just do another shift or so at SDS during semester and save myself the trauma.

That shouldn’t be too bad, since I seem to have scored myself 6 hour (minimum) shifts every Saturday for the next few months, leading to time and a half. If I can slip in a couple more decent-length shifts each week I should be plum. Well, scrape by for semester.

Still don’t know how I’m going to cope if I do honours next year. Hopefully I’ll be able to get youth allowance or something (there’s about 50 different names for it depending on your situation), since it’s meant to be a full time course. Hmm. I’m really not even sure if I want to go through with it now. Depends what options I find available for myself at the end of the year and if I’ve decided what I really want to do. Or perhaps on how well I do this year at uni.

I still hate being the only person in my circle of friends left at uni. Gah. :s

Pics.

Finally pulled all the pics off my shitty old camera’s memory card. See the cut. There’s an awesome one of my cat, if that helps you decide to bother looking.

Just changed my shifts around at work, so that I get the penalty rates counting over my whole shift. 17% pay increase baby. \o/

Well, that’s how it’s meant to work.

Tried out iTunes because I was prepared to pay to download Gary Numan’s Pleasure Principle album. Turns out that’s practically the only Gary Numan album that they don’t have. Soulseek is way too slow unless you want mainstream popular shit, so it looks like I’m up shit/Amazon/record store creek.

Some of those other legal MP3 download sites are dodgy. I especially love the ones that request your email first, then on the next page after you’ve submitted it your credit card number, etc. Gotta love having Hotmail for trying shit like that out. At least until the second step.

Still, they offered ~ US$0.25/song as opposed to iTunes’ US$0.99/song. Bigger library too. Meh.
Here’s my favourite:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

That’s from home though, when I lived there. I miss him. :'(

Scott’s been asleep all night, until I did this:

He’s gonna get me back for that, I can feel it. Actually he looks a bit like Chris Taylor from The Chaser and triple j in that one.

Don’t you think?

Especially this one:

Here’s another unflattering one of me I think, with young Tomy. Hope his mum doesn’t see this or we’ll never be allowed to kidnap him again for an afternoon. Man my arms look like noodles now. :O I should start trying to pretend I do weights somewhat regularly again. Or something.

hehe.

Boo.

Too hot. Tired. Have to go to IGA and shop. Got knocked back from moving to the IT division at work because I couldn’t work full time for the next two years.

That’s probably a good thing though, in the end, partially at least. Why? Because I can still keep my flexible, higher-paying job in data entry, along with having enough “free time” to do tutoring at uni as well. The downside is I miss out on an IT job for my resume. :s

They were only offering $12-13/h or ~$28-30k/year for a graduate position. Pretty shit, especially if I end up getting through honours later on (which will quite probably lead to getting offered better jobs if I do well), so yeah, maybe it’s for the best.

Ah well.

I’m having a fat day. Boo.

Noosa on Sunday. Dentist on Saturday. Both should be an experience. I must remember to floss!

ARGH.

Still no net. Hi home.

I need to find out Dad’s special rent account number so I can deposit all of my cash and be poor again. :<

Larry the exetel man says to try a few more things tonight and see what happens, if that doesn’t work he’ll lodge an ADSL fault complaint with Telstra for me, or some crap. God knows.

Stupid ISP only having office hours open during business hours. It’s not fucking good for either me or Scott as we both work outside of and through exetel’s business hours, so there’s only 1 or 2 days a week where we’re home to go through all their bullshit.

I bet the pricks bill me for the first month, too. Real fair. Especially when Larry himself (hallowed-be-thy-name) admitted he wasn’t even sure what the problem was. Hopefully I can fix it tonight, otherwise what’s another few days.

It’s just the convenience of the net that I’m missing. Having to drive home to do netbanking and check my email etc is pretty annoying. I can do most of the basic things at netcafes easily enough, but no fucking way am I doing any actual monetary transactions or banking from one of those places.

So what else have I been doing, then? Hmm.

Well, Scott and I have been checking out a few restaurants up King street, most are alright, bar Guzzle Tandoori opposite us. Totally shit. Lou’s been coming along now and then too. This week I’m gonna try and starve myself a bit because I feel like I’m overeating again and I want to lose some more weight. If that doesn’t work or I can’t handle it I’ll fire up the kick-start diet again and try that out. Yeah, just in time for Christmas. That’s ok though, I don’t really like Christmas food much.

Speaking of food, I think I’m going to Kylie Kwong’s (Kwan? Kwon?) restaurant with Lou and her parents next week… I think. It’s either tomorrow or next week. Hrm. That’s Asian-y food anyway, and if it’s Chinese I don’t particulary get off too much on that either. Still, I’m sure it’ll be fun.

Saw Garden State with Lou last week, very good and enjoyable and it didn’t feel Hollywood-bastardised, which is refreshing for an American movie. Much like all my Troma videos that I’m still ploughing through. I think I’m starting to convert Scott to both TISM and Troma. Look out. He seemed to enjoy the 10 year old TISM video I converted to DVD about some of their exploits. Jolly good.

Last weekend was the Christmas party for where I work. We went to the same place again: Harold Park Paceway (gotta love the trots). The food was alright, very RSL/bistro-y. I didn’t eat any of the seafood, of course. The beer seemed to be watered down but at least it was free. My costume (a “Christmas present”, ie a cardbox box with shoulder straps made of tinsel and wrapped in wrapping paper) fell apart when the wind blew the paper straight off it, so I ditched it. I couldn’t be fucked carrying it from Newtown to Glebe or wherever the Paceway is, I walked 35 minutes to get there.

After the party I decided to go to Newtown, instead of Oxford street where some of my other colleagues went. It turned out another girl I knew from work was hitting up a pub on King street so I met up there with her and more work people I’d never spoken to before. It went well enough. I then had to escort a girl called Alecia around the back streets of Newtown to find the Imperial where some more “upstairs” people from work were hanging around. No one stayed there long though as it was getting a bit late and no one was drinking enough to keep it going. I managed to fluke my way through the back streets and found my apartment really easily. Go me.

On Sunday, Deny came around to pick up his paintings and mum and dad came round to check up on things and help me with a few handyman style jobs. Scott and I were rather amused that orphic never bothered calling or dropping in. I’m sure she’ll have a good excuse. hehe.

As for work, well, I’m simply working too hard (as usual, of course) and I’m getting my RSI symptoms back again. I can only type for a little while before it starts to burn, but I have other odd jobs to keep me going for my 3 ten hour shifts a week. Good times, yes.

Hopefully I’ll be able to work my way in to the IT department after Christmas. Hopefully. We’ll see what happens.

Anyway I suppose I’ll get a wriggle on and get back to the flat. Oh maybe I’ll pay dad first and bust my bank account. Medicare still haven’t paid him his money for about the 6th time this year… Yes, Medicare owes my dad $30k from this year, and still haven’t paid up. They keep saying the forms he submitted must have been lost by Australia Post. Unfortunately for them he’s always delivered them by hand to Medicare’s office drop boxes. Bad luck on the excuses, you pricks.

So, that’s why he wants my money, now. :S

Whee.

Oh yeah, getting up at 5am for work fucking smokes it.
