FINALLY.

Finished my ISYS3000 assignment.

2500 words later (I think it’s a little over, it’s meant to be 2000, but that’s including the headings and references too).

Nothing for 3 weeks, when I have my exams! Wheeee!

Got Lou to book a holiday house in Noosa for Lloyd, Eri, Lou and I earlier this afternoon. The silly boffins couldn’t decide on a place, after throwing about 500 links around for the last few days. Of course, with my masculine hunter-style mind I managed to peruse the thumbnails of available locations near Hastings street and we ended up booking the first one that I picked. ;)

$275 each for 7 nights. Less than 1km to Hastings street and it’s got its own private pool and beach, along with nearby restaurants and a bus stop. It’s also decked out with facilities such as TV & DVD, even a dishwasher. It has this funky blue kitchen counter and it’s tiled through and even has ceiling fans! Yay for nice and cool floor with air flow during what will probably be the hottest and most humid time of the year!

It should be really good fun, I’m looking forward to going there with the guys.

Can’t remember if I posted earlier or not, Lou missed out on the job at Coke. :( She’ll have to go work for Pepsi now just to get the ultimate revenge.

Spoke to FallenAngel/Brendan, a dude from WAY back on austnet IRC (circa 1997). He randomly messaged me on Trillian’s ICQ (as I wont use normal ICQ) tonight as I was writing up my report. It was good to catch up with Prong Brother 1. Mmm hmm.

Looks like I’m most likely moving out to Newtown in a month or so! Holy cow! Deny (pronounced Danny, but he’s stupid) reckons he’s moving up to Queensland somewhere and he wants to sell some of the furniture/appliances that are already in the flat for some extra cash. Mum said she would probably buy it or something (?? but that suits me) so I can use it. I’m probably getting a flatmate too but I don’t know if that’s meant to be a mystery yet or not and I can’t be stuffed checking.

As usual, I’ve stayed up later than I need to in order to write in this journal. I don’t think I’ve got it in me to a) regularly write; and b) write at a reasonable time. I’ve coped for this long though so it can’t be all bad.

I’ve been playing the World of Warcraft closed beta. It’s pretty fun, I think it’s actually fucking good for an MMORPG (even though I promised myself I’d never play one again). I’m still undecided as to whether I’ll be buying it when it goes retail or not. I’ll have to see what my situation is at the time.

Sore throat. Ouchies. Probably not enough sleep. It got me a sickie yesterday at least.

Big Lebowski didn’t end up getting played at uni on Tuesday, they fucked up the DVD that they hired (isn’t it meant to be illegal to hire a movie out to screen publically?) and accidently got Fargo or something. Not that Fargo is a bad movie, we just didn’t feel like watching it after we spent the last week or two and the whole day getting excited about seeing it (as Lou still hasn’t)… Oh well, Saturday perhaps!

Gotta leave for uni soon. I hate early tutorials when that’s all that I have on for the day. How sucky. :< The subject's website says we have to hand some work in each tutorial, but the tutorial questions came with answers this week… ? They were also labelled "week 3" even though it's week 2… I'm so confused. At least I'll hopefully have some time now to buy my textbooks I guess, as I'll have a few hours (ie, 5) before work tonight.

Bought Doom 3 on Tuesday. As most switched-on reviewers have commented: it's an ordinary game on a terrific engine. It is basically a tribute/near-remake of Doom 1. Linear gameplay, weak story, weak characters and no real replayability. It looks beautiful though and the lighting effects are amazing. I had to crank up the gamma through the in game console to be able to see anything though… I think it's perhaps a little too dark most of the time.

The multiplayer is fun (and it feels very, very smooth) but will be short lived. I’m pretty sure the id boys concentrated all their time on making a solid engine that they knew they could license out to other developers. The hype about the singleplayer experience (whilst still a fun game, it’s AI is weaker than that of Half-Life’s and the story is even weaker) was just to make BIG dollars. It appears they’ve already released the source code to certain developers (I know Quake 4 is being made off a modified Doom 3 engine) and I think a map editor is included with the game. Mods will keep this game alive (and there will be many!).

Now we wait for Half-Life 2, which appears to have a more dynamic engine (and most likely a great storyline and experience). It’ll be tough to match the smooth movement that only id seem to be able to provide, though. Still, it’s very possible. Apparently the latest Unreal Tournament is meant to have a killer engine. Unfortunately, I’ve always had issues with the way the mouse and player movement feels in UT. Hopefully the latest one is smooth sailing.

About time I cleaned my teeth and went to uni I think. Huzzah.

Of course, I’m sleepy again. I only post in here when I’m sleepy. Maybe that’s why life sounds so boring in here. Maybe I’m just boring though. Whatever.

Had a big bludgy day at uni today. Managed to hit up some Thai Times 9 with Asren and Lou. Also bought some beads for Lou from the Bead Company. Expensive little bastards. That place must make a killing. I took her round to see where our flat on King street is as well. Lots of walking. Whee.

Saturday night was good fun, a nice big gathering of chums (including Helena and Asren, again). We went from Ship Inn to the Australian to the Lowenbrau to Maccas to Ship Inn to Pancakes on the Rocks to home. Lloyd and Eri didn’t soft out for once. It was impressive. Good to see the rest of most of the usual suspects as well.

I’m already in lazy mode for uni, it’s got me worried. I have to buy the text books. I was going to buy them today but the queue was way too long. I also have to pay at least $175 for only two text books. Gotta love that. At least I get a bit of a discount due to my Co-Op membership.

Tomorrow I’m meant to be watching The Big Lebowski with Lou at Manning Bar in the afternoon. I tried to talk Helena in to coming along, too, on Saturday night. Don’t know if she’ll be up for it though. Hmm.

I tried out that Manhunt game by Rockstar. The one where you go around viciously murdering gang members. Some 17 year old killed a 14 year old in America and they’re blaming the game for inspiring him, as the 17 year old enjoyed the game. Personally I think that although the execution videos are very graphic, they still come off a little comical (and entertaining, even; at least from a curiousity standpoint, perhaps) and the gameplay is fairly boring and repetitive. The AI is dodgy and the process of taking them out is simply laborious. If that 17 year old was inspired by the game to kill that 14 year old violently, he’d have to already be pretty fucked up anyway to be able to play the game long enough to be influenced by it. Blame the parenting and the fact that some people are just bad, I say.

I’m really bored lately and just can’t be stuffed doing anything productive, or even counter-productive. I just sort of sit around waiting for something interesting to happen. I really need to start doing some uni work, or preparation for assignments or something.

I hope the bracelet Lou made me is cool, I’m sure it will be. We got some nice dark red beads and a few B-grade garnets, as they’re my birth stone. :) Whee should be good tomorrow.

Palmy and tofu spent most of the weekend making the dot movie. Apparently it’s roughly 400MB to download. I think the dotmaens are getting a special DVD version though that’s higher quality. Should be cool.

Turns out the 3 hour lecture is actually only meant to be 2 hours. \o/

I bought a 3-subject binder today. I don’t know why I never thought to do that earlier. So much nicer than carrying around 3 different exercise books – especially when I don’t write any notes anyway. It’s a nice red colour too: always a plus.

I’m still shitty at the last 3 days of my timetable… 3 hours over 3 days. In the mornings… Before I go to work… :'(

Played an 8v8 CoD match tonight. We lost 13-7. I’m surprised it was that close considering we pubbed it up in the most idiotic ways, including taking 2 attacking rounds with carbine rushes… hehe

Dad’s still DVD mad. The house is flooding from them. should be receiving some of his eBay wins soon, as well, for further shipping. :o Maybe I should tell her. Hmm.

Salesi has decided to sit on the desk and most of my mouse pad again, but not face me. Stupid cat. :S

I really should listen to more of this Lou Reed stuff… Had it sitting here for a while but never paid a whole lot of attention to it… There’s something so laid back about some of it when it’s 1:45 AM and your vision is blurry and you want to go to sleep.

Seeing Chandler on Saturday, should be good fun to catch up with him again. We’re gonna Arnie it up and maybe throw in some Futurama for good measure.

Acquired Far Cry the other day… It’s only average compared to the hype. Haven’t tried the multiplayer yet, but I’m not expecting much. The new patch should make it nicer, and it has PunkBuster support already which is cool. Still, the SP component doesn’t fell terrificly smooth in the engine, and the aiming feels a bit retarded at times… I guess I should try it out first though… Might need to “acquire” some help to get it working with the 1.1 patch though. Time to check a few more torrents sites out for “ideas” methinks…

Uni is starting to heat up. I can handle two of my three subjects. The third one is just one of those retarded literature-reviewing style subjects, revolved around research problems and crap like that. Unfortunately I need to do it for my project in second semester (that I’ll either do this year or next year… Maybe this year since I’m doing the ?pre-course work now), so I think I just lose outright.

I need to do some more shoutcasts. I’m just so busy these days. It’s good though, I like being busy. I think the last year or so was bad in the fact that I had too much free time. I suppose on the other hand it was a good thing, though… Helped me realise I really do prefer being busier and getting involved in more things. :)

I feel bad about the 21 and LoA guys though… I’m hardly there to help them in ET and RTCW respectively… Well, I’m not there at all to be honest. I would be if I had the time though… Hope they realise. :/

Wonder how 4saken is going… Haven’t really caught up with him in ages. I should hassle him to go to ivLAN, even though I know he wont. From memory he mentioned on the LoA forums that he’s going to be a bookworm this year anyway… I suppose that means he hasn’t updated his crappy (;)) little journal on his Optus webspace… Well, I suppose he HAS at least posted once this year. I give him extra credit points for the cute turtle photos. ^_^ I suppose I should harass him to change the title of the link he has to my page… No more Fortress of Disinterest! I think I’ll change the title of mine again actually, read on for complaints never had the ring to it that I was hoping for; afterall, I did whip it up in the early hours of the morning one time…

Been a while I know, I know…

Caught up with 2 distant ladies that I haven’t spoken to in a while, Linzi and Loz. What’s with girls names starting with L… I know too many in that situation and it’s kind of creepy. :o

My cousin (although I call him uncle) Grant is back from the UAE… Saw him last night when I took Lou back home from dinner. He’s well and all that. Gonna see him and the rest of the family-friend gang on Saturday at Joyce’s. Rock on.

Burnt out the clutch on my car last week. >_< $407 all up for it to be fixed. Dad generously offered to pay half of it. I kind of feel bad about it but I don't think I can resist, money is money after all.

I've realised lately that I haven't really been playing games much, I just spend a lot of time chatting and being bored in front of the PC. When I do actually play it's usually just for pracs/matches in ET…

To combat this, I've started reading a bit more. I just polished off The Firm after it started humbly as my dunny-book of the moment… Now I'm on to Catch Me If You Can… I think it's no coincidence that the books Ross has around the flat have close relations to Hollywood movies… Hmm.

Things seem pretty cruisy of late. I pre-enrolled at Uni last Friday, so I'm definitely going back next year. I think I have to sort out my pre-enrolment places before the 14th, while there's still time!

Nothing particularly interesting has happened that I can think of. Went on the WineSoc cruise last Wednesday around the harbour. Was nice but nothing exceptional… Oh, well, it was sponsored by Subway… Yes, a wine cruise with free subs… I don’t get it either but I’m not one to complain when free subs are on offer!

GameArena is having it’s final RTCW match tonight, the grand final between BlackJack and iMmunity. iMmunity are the big favourites but hopefully BlackJack can pull something out of the bag. It’ll be really sad seeing RTCW finally die out… I’ve spent almost 2 years of my life playing it, and I have nothing but fond memories of what I believe is one of the greatest team-based FPS games in the history of multiplayer. :(

Ross came over to drop off dad’s tools last night… Then we went on a walk for like 2 and a half fucking hours… My legs are still sore. :x

Still only half way through Harry Potter 5… Haven’t had a good chance since Sunday to just sit down and read the bastard through. Cool book though. :)
