Life goes on

Then there were three. Three staff that is, although technically Valerie is back today with her friend. I still don’t know how long she’s staying. Meh. Whatever. So yeah, Hector left earlier this morning. Steffi left yesterday afternoon. Bring back Hans, I say.

I’m going to start looking for work in the UK again soon, I think. I’m not really sure how far ahead of time I need to start applying for jobs to secure one and have it lined up for when we arrive. I’d definitely like to have a guaranteed income from day 1 though even if it’s a shitty job or shitty pay, simply for peace of mind.

Makes me wonder if I need to or if it’s worth bothering with all these quickstart type things or just doing it in person when I get there or even doing it another way online. God knows. I’ll work something out.

Livijus wants me to create a website advertising his apartments for him. It should be easy enough, provided I can get some good photos of the place. Working out the best web host for what he wants and getting the domain set up will be more effort than making the page, I think.

I’m going to start being a little bit more specific with the categories that I assign to my posts from now on. I suppose a few different tags can’t hurt and it probably makes flicking through things a little bit more interesting. Maybe.

Back again

Well, ok, I changed my mind pretty fast. Kinda.

Back with WordPress and now I’m going to get rid of Drupal. Not that I’m unhappy with it, it’s just that now all I really do is blog so WordPress should look after me well enough.

Besides, I like finding things to keep me amused. I’m going to migrate this to the root of the domain tomorrow, probably.

I’ve also changed my gallery to use zenphoto. I’ve tried it before but now it has beta-support for subalbums, so I’m pleased and now I’m using it.

Anyway. Bed time.

Turdpress.

Ok, so it’s not that bad. Still, I’m not using WordPress any more. I just update the blog on my homepage instead.

It may however have been a completely worthless transition as I’m quite lonely now. It seems that no one actually reads it (or at least comments). That’s fair enough though since I realise it’s hard to bother checking other pages when everyone else you know is on LJ in the first place.

I suppose I could just syndicate my LJ entries onto the website. Maybe I’ll try that for fun.

Don’t tell anyone, but I miss all of you and your pointless comments.

Integrated, finally

Well, I did it. I managed to migrate my WordPress blog onto Drupal.

Now I have a reason to visit this site apart from clicking on my other links and perhaps listening to some embedded music.

Now you have a reason to visit, too.

Yep, still in Tallinn. I’m in the private rooms today instead of in the dorms. That’s why I’ve been enteretaining myself with my site instead of doing any work. Speaking of which, it could be time to scrub the toilets.

Emily arrives tomorrow. :O

I should brush my teeth.

Humour is serious business

Ok, so I’ve begun attempting to somewhat-regularly produce a comic strip. It’s kinda hard writing any of the stuff for it.

Sure, funny things happen in real life but when you’re trying to create a joke it’s nearly impossible. The spontaneity is totally gone, although it may appear to look that way when one reads the strip. I see my type of personal humour to be reliant on timing and verbal. Quick-wittedness, if I dare say so myself.

Of course, saying that about myself just makes me sound like even more of a wanker than I normally do. That’s just how I perceive my style, I guess.

In order to make things a little easier for myself when the not-often-enough-urge comes to abuse MSPaint and create a new strip, I keep a file with little ideas for things that I find funny or quotes/dialogue I’ve had with people for inspiriation. It’s not very long at the moment but I haven’t added to it in a while.

The medium I’ve chosen for my comic isn’t particularly subtley-friendly, either. I traded off ease-of-creation for detail by using sprites instead of hand-drawing images. Perhaps I can start doing random comics without using set characters but I’d still have to create them. I made the decision to go with pre-drawn sprites as I figured that while I’m travelling and in random net cafes, access to decent image editing programs would be limited and any precision mousework would probably be difficult. Of course, I could be mistaken.

I could always just bury it and forget it ever happened. Admittedly, I tend to only make a comic when I’m bored, not because I really want anyone to read it (I don’t even have an abstractly-idealised target audience for it, apart from maybe sharing it with some friends for a chuckle here and there).

Still, I’ve learnt a few things along the way.

Krakow.

Yeah, yeah. I’m a lazy bastard. Whatever.

Actually, no, I’m not lazy. The reason I’ve been so slack is that I’ve been busy and I’ve also been spending time running around with people, so it’s hard to get enough time to update anything properly.

If anyone’s really keen, I’ve put a gallery up on my site (although not all the photos are uploaded yet [it takes a lot of fucking work, you bastards]) at www.redknob.net/gallery. Ignore Kat’s, she’s not me and I was being nice.

So, who’s missing me? Come on, I know you love it.

Consumer.

I bought a man bag. Well it’s more a unisex bag. I think. I don’t know. Crumpler’s bags sure as hell didn’t cut it.

Do you like it?That’s the colour I picked, too. It’s from Manhattan Portage but I bought it from Karmaloop with an online coupon, so I saved about 13% of the overall price, shipping included. Not so bad.

I looked up the Australian Converse site, but the pricks don’t have their products section working until December. Great marketing strategy there. Unfortunately, the US site doesn’t ship internationally, so I guess I’m going to have to check out some more shops in Sydney if I’m ever going to replace these poor red shoes.

I’m not even sure what style to get. Somebody help me decide!

High or low?

I currently own a low-cut pair. I quite like them. I still have a niggling yearning for the old school high cut ones, though. The other problem seems to be that you can’t get them in size 12 anywhere. :(

How can it be this hard?

In non-commercial news: I’ve been subpoenaed! Who would have thunk it? I’m not actually sure if I’m allowed to disclose any details. I haven’t seen the letter yet. Mum just rang me earlier today while I was browsing through a book shop on my way to get Thai for lunch today. I’ll have to check it out after work on Friday.

Uni news: My group made it in to the second round of presentations. Now we just have to impress the folks from Accenture and we’ll win $1000 each! Even though I’m over it I’ll still try for some cash.

Finally, I made some original content for my site in the guise of some horribly written game reviews and I also cleaned up the site a wee bit.

P.S. my highlight for today was buying a bottle of Jim Beam. I might take up alcoholism for a hobby, since I’m quite bored.
